On A Midnite Flyer, With You
© 2001 Jesse Slokum
One more night on the bus, leaving the driving to them
Nothing much to discuss, sleeping is my big problem
Diesel motor's humming, dawn cracks - the day is coming
Clouds ahead look like rain, makes me wish I was on a train.
I think how I set you free, and my heart starts to flutter
The old man next to me wakes up and starts to mutter
Something underneath his breath, said he was afraid of death
I blinked twice, hear him rasp, followed by his throat's last grim
gasp
Such a helpless feeling, when there's nothing you can do
My senses were reeling, I prayed I'd make it through
Then, I prayed for you
Well, the fabled finger of fate finds its own moment in time
My mind lingers of late, on who's innocent of crime
Did I push you too fast? Was it too good to last?
Were you toying with me? Were we simply too blind to see?
One more night on the bus, leaving the driving to them
Nothing much to discuss, sleeping is my big problem
Diesel motor's humming, dawn cracks - the day is coming
Clouds ahead look like rain, makes me wish I were on a train
Sure do wish I was on a midnight flyer with you
Sure do wish I was on a midnight flyer with you
