Kalispell, Montana

My hosts sure chose well when they decided to retire here...Syke's an old fashioned grocery, general store, restaurant, pharmacy is a disappearing kind of Americana, that is hard to describe to anyone who thinks yuppifying everything to the max is the only way to go - which is a dead end, highly wasteful, lifestyle as far as this old-timer is concerned...so, I was happy to be taken to Syke's almost immediately...more soon!

I was treated to a visit to a local park, with a pond that is home to both ducks and geese - BIG honkers...fun feeding them! Since my hosts are flower fanciers, we spent time gzing at flower beds...going to the park was quite relaxing after a two day bus journey...I quickly located the library, where I was able to make entries for this feature. Very friendly space, quite relaxing and enjoyable...a book lover can always take time away from the hustle-bustle of travelling by making the local library a stop in as many places as possible when travelling...

Since my host has a scanner for digital images, I was delighted to be given a cd with scanned files of dozens of song sheets I had painstakingly written out for myself of dozens of years...now I have a secure source for these "back-ups" for my memory, since a singer/player cycles through many songs/tunes and can't always keep even your OWN material in active memory...

The stay in Kalispell was nicely broken up by visits to Big Mountain ski resort summit on Friday 8/25 and a drive to Swan Lake 33 miles south of Kalispell on Sunday, the 27th. We chose not to pay a fee for a picnic table area, instead finding a paved roadside pull-over that was not packed with families and whining children...the view of the lake was quite stunning, and worth the drive down and back!

I have a feeling I will visit Kalispell, Montana again...
