The BEATITUDES

From "The Sermon on the Mount"

Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted

Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be fulfilled

Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy

Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they shall see GOD

Blessed are the peacemakers.
for they shall be called Children of GOD

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake,
for theirs is the Kingdom of GOD

Blessed are ye when men revile you and speak every manner of evil against you for my sake,
rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in Heaven (for thus spake they against the prophets of old)

I have found in my meditations upon these blessings an abundance of grace in store for those who shall abide in these blessings. I will contemplate them as I walk alone, ride a bus, wait for a bus, ready myself for sleep. When I feel as if I must make a retreat to the "privacy of my cabinet" because I am troubled by my continued backsliding, or something I witness, read about, hear of in the world, I also contemplate these blessings at such times. Even when I have been without a residence in the past 12 years or so, I've discovered "my cabinet" is within my Heart of Hearts of HEARTS.
